home                                   archives                    about the artist                             2010 work

I have a long history of producing landscape paintings and have really done the full spectrum, ranging from Deibenkorn-inspired planar "scapes" to quasi-luminist pieces (see "archives" link).  Over the past 15 years, my experiments with both color and format have led to a desire to produce work outside of the traditional landscape perspective. The time I have spent in Oaxaca, Mexico over the past 5 years has reawakened my interest in non-European art forms and has inspired me to move into new visual territory.   My intent is to combine a luminous color palette with natural patterns and shapes in a manner that conveys both the inner landscape of my mind and aspects of the natural world.

I call my new work "Generations" because each series builds upon the previous one.  The first series, Organica, was completed on the dining table of my apartment in Oaxaca.   These pieces are comprised of simple, cell-like shapes floating on a dark backgrounds.

Other series followed, most recently elements and shards.
